Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, ‘Dear Jim: I loved your card.’ Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, ‘Jim loved your card so much he ate it.’ That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.

Love is something that’s hard to define but it’s also defined with actions. So I didn’t know they loved me until they traded for me. They could say, ‘We really like you. We really want you.’ But how many times have you said that to a girl straight to her face and you didn’t love her? You have to show her that you love her. In this case I guess I was the girl and they showed me that they loved me. I’ll always work my butt off for them.

I’m beyond excited for him to get to Washington.

Rock the Red(skins): In Holtby We Trust

washingtonsports:

Caps Nation was all nerves going into a playoff series against the 2nd seeded Boston Bruins lead by Tim Thomas, with an untested playoff net-minder in Braden Holtby. But Holtby stunned us all with a spectacular performance in the first game going 29/30 for a .967 save percentage and forcing the…

RG32DC

For any of you who have read my previous piece on RG3, you know that I was ecstatic when I heard the Redskins had traded up to the #2 spot in the draft. My next thought came immediately and with opposite emotions, “how much did we give for him?”. With Andrew Luck as the obvious first choice given Jim Irsay’s love affair with the young Stanfordian, it was obvious to me that RG3 would be coming to Washington. Reading various sources I gathered the St. Louis would be receiving two future first round picks as well as various other picks including a second round pick within the next few years. The assessment I came to was that we had banked the next seven years of our franchise on an unproven quarterback. I was still ecstatic.

Yes, it’s terrifying to think how much Snyder, Shanny and the boys are banking on one player, but I agree with their decision to give whatever it took to get the kid. Robert Griffin III is a once in a lifetime quarterback who can finally turn things around in Washington. Watching him at Baylor’s pro day only solidified my belief that he’s the guy for us. His encouragement of teammates in the huddle, constant chatter and direction of his receivers, prove that he has leadership skills that have been sadly lacking on the offensive set for many years. So, even though Andrew Luck may be a more talented quarterback in the throwing department, I think RG3 will run the Shanahan play action, run oriented offense better while still having an arm that can send a receiver all the way down the field. And with the intangibles that he brings to the table, my excitement can hardly be bridled.

My rating of the RG3 transaction? 10/10. I can’t wait to see what happens this year. I won’t let myself dream championship dreams yet, but winning season dreams? I’ll be having those for many nights to come.
